Creepy silence

Creepy Silence : My quick take on Movie “Monster” (Netflix)

“Monster” is a cinematic triumph from Indonesia that redefines the thriller genre. This silent movie, reminiscent of the classics by Chaplin and the comedic genius of Laurel and Hardy, delivers a gripping, spine-chilling experience that will leave you breathless. As someone who has enjoyed silent films like Mel Brooks’ “Silent Movie” and the Indian masterpiece “Pushpak,” I found “Monster” to be a fresh and thrilling addition to this unique genre.

Set in a remote Indonesian village, the film follows the harrowing journey of two young siblings who are abducted by a psychotic killer. The children are taken to a secluded villa, where the boy is chained in captivity while his sister is trapped in a car trunk. The plot centers on their desperate attempt to escape from a sinister couple involved in both paedophilia and organ trade.

Anantya Kirana, who plays the young girl, delivers an outstanding performance. Her portrayal of a terrified yet resilient child is nothing short of extraordinary. Her ability to convey fear and determination without uttering a single word is a testament to her talent and the film’s powerful storytelling.

What sets “Monster” apart is its innovative use of silence. The absence of dialogue enhances the tension, allowing the eerie quietness to amplify the horror. This approach proves that sometimes, silence speaks louder than words, creating a haunting atmosphere that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats.

If you are a fan of thrillers, “Monster” is a must-watch. It is a unique, unforgettable film that demonstrates the power of visual storytelling and the profound impact of silence.
